CASARATAN
The first inhabitants of the place came from the Municipality of Sarat , Ilocos Norte. People living in said part of the municipality are industrious and upon their arrival in this part of San Nicolas, Pangasinan, they decided to settle here and build their homes. Historical records disclosed that the first settlers were the families of Mr. RoquePerico, Mr. Felix Perico , Mr. Juan Perico, Mrs. Antonia Lampa, Mr. Juan Goltiao, Mr. EustaquioEquila and Sixta Lora. Because of their love for the place, they established their place of permanent residence here and mutually agreed to name the place as “Casaratan”.
The first recognized leaders of the Barangay were Mr. Roque; Mr. Ernesto Casaclang; Mr. EliseoCasaclang; Mr. Florante Espiritu; Mr. EligioLampa Sr.; and Mr. Antonio Espiritu.
In 1972, then President Ferdinand E. Marcos issued an order for the reorganization of all barrios nationwide and later on, renamed the barrios as Barangays.
A barangay election was then held pursuant to Presidential decree issued by then Pres. Ferdinand Marcos and the first barangay officials elected 1972 were: EligioLampa, Sr., Brgy . Captain; Juan Perico , AgripitoYranon , Felimon Garcia Cornelio Lucas,AnatalioSeriosa and Martin Hora,Councilmen ; Amado Aguilar was also appointed as Barangay Secretary and Treasurer .
The primary sources of income/ livelihood in barangayCasaratan are: farming, piggery livestock, sand and gravel. Other sources of income include teaching profession and employment in the government services.
The inhabitants are members of the different religious congregations. Among the dominant religious congregations includes the Roman Catholic; the Iglesia Ni Cristo; the United Methodist Church; the Seventh day Adventist; and United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
